“You are your own worst enemy.” Award-winning pianist and composer, John Burke, understands firsthand the weight of this truth. Having a deep connection with music from the time he was young, John understood that your mind is the most powerful of tools, with the ability to either make you or break you. Citing his own conscience as the biggest obstacle he’s ever had to overcome, John determined that the only way he could succeed was through channeling his negative thoughts into positive ones, to fuel him towards his musical pursuits.
From a young age, John was drawn to the piano, a love that was inspired by his musically-inclined father. In 2008, John began attending Oglethorpe University where his piano skills really developed and his adoration for those 88 keys grew to an entirely different level. As a post-grad, it didn’t take long for John to determine that being a musician was his life’s calling, and set out to turn his passion into a lucrative career.
This impressive artist has released four albums thus far, and we can certainly expect more great things from him. In fact, his latest album Orogen, was nominated this year for a Grammy, an incredible feat for any artist, let alone one so early in his career.
As a fellow Oglethorpe graduate, I really am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to speak with John. He is an incredibly driven and entrepreneurial-minded person, and I know that his story and his advice will inspire you to go the distance. I sincerely hope that you all enjoy my discussion with John Burke.
